Guided New York City Tour from Chelsea to Greenwich Village

New meets old on this walk

and Art Meets Industry

The High Line is an old, elevated railway line that has been converted into a park. Originally built to transport goods, it now leads pedestrians from the Hudson Yards through Chelsea to the Meatpacking District. The name says it all: meat was once processed here, then loaded onto the rails and shipped to the Hudson River. Nowadays, people tend to forget that New York was once one of the largest and most important port cities in America. This is evidenced by the now renovated warehouses and industrial buildings in Chelsea that serve as apartments, offices or galleries - art galleries, mind you. Chelsea is home to one of the most important and largest gallery districts in the world. It's worth stepping down from the High Line for a moment to take a look inside some of them.

Wherever shipping takes place, there are also piers. Very few of them are still ship piers today. Many have been converted into parks, sports centers or event locations, such as Pier 57. On our New York walk, we will also visit these, as well as the Chelsea Market in the former Oreo factory. Then we go through the Meatpacking District, which is now classy and upscale, with restaurants and select shops, to Greenwich Village, where we look at some of the typical New York town houses. Of course, we also pass the one where Carrie Bradshaw lived in Sex and the City
