The most beautiful way to cross the Brooklyn Bridge is from the Brooklyn side. You can see the Manhattan skyline all the way. And it's even better to do this route in the morning, when the sun shines from behind and the photos are better.

Little Island is the small island on concrete pillars right next to Chelsea Market on the Hudson River. It is really worth seeing and you have a great view of downtown. But the view from Pier 57 directly north of Little Island is even better. You walk past the food stalls in Pier 57 and take the elevator to the outdoor terrace of the building. There are enough benches there and you can see not only downtown but also Little Island.
This ferry is free! It goes close to the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Outlet on Staten Island. Departure in southern Manhattan: Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
From the Brooklyn Heights Promenade you have one of the most beautiful views over the East River to Downtown Manhattan. And not only that, Brooklyn Heights is a really cute neighborhood with listed brownstone houses. The subway lines 2 and 3 lead right to Brooklyn Heights and it is a stone's throw away from DUMBO.
Bushwick is now known for its graffiti art. The street art project is called THE BUSHWICK COLLECTIVE.
The Steven A. Schwarmann Building of the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue is known for its large and beautiful Rose Main Reading Room, for its permanent exhibition of the stuffed animals that inspired Wynnie the Pooh, and for Sex and the City.

This ride on the Roosevelt Island Tramway is not completely free, but is paid for like the subway, i.e. 2.60 euros for one ride - either by scanning your credit card directly or paying with your Metrocard.
