On this private New York tour, where we speak German, we will visit two bars together and I will take you to the third: one of New York's old taverns, a speakeasy and a rooftop bar. There is the option of eating in the last bar/restaurant.
On the way, I tell the story of Prohibition and a little bit of New York history in general. There are many exciting stories of smugglers, drinkers, bar owners and people who met there. Depending on which part of town we are in, we make two or three detours to the district's highlights. You will get further insider tips for the evening or the next few days and I will answer any questions you have about New York.
The bars we visit on this tour also depend on the location of your hotel and your preferences. I will put together the route and the bar and then you give your OK.
Dates:by arrangement - start from 4.30pm possible.
Duration: about 2 hours
Cost: If you're planning a night out at a bar, you have to expect high expenses. A beer in a rooftop bar costs a good $12-15 plus tax and tip. Drinks and wine start at $16 with an open top amount. The same goes for the food. But I also know a few cheap pizza takeaways between the bars!

Here are some insider tips with some top bars:
Drinking is a tradition in New York City. In the early years, when New York was still called New Amsterdam, people met in taverns to conduct government business.
300 years later, however, the situation was different. The sale and production of alcohol was banned from 1920 to 1933: this is the so-called Prohibition period. Not that New Yorkers stuck to it. Smuggling boomed, as did hidden bars, the so-called speakeasies. "Speak easy" means something like "speak quietly" or "whisper". The bars were not supposed to be found because of the noise levels there, nor were you allowed to give out the location or ask about it out loud.
Today, in addition to two of the original speakeasies that have been functioning as bars since the 1920s, there are countless hidden bars that have been added recently. You enter them through apartment doors, an inconspicuous door in the wall of a shop, or you are directed to a basement staircase.
New York City is now known above all for its rooftop bars. With its skyscrapers, the city is naturally predestined for bars high above the rooftops. These offer a unique view and an atmosphere that can only be found here. Anyone over the age of 21 should definitely treat themselves to an evening high above New York's streets.
